What It Is

Medicare Advantage, explained simply

Medicare Advantage (also called Part C) is a way to receive your Medicare benefits through a private insurance plan approved by Medicare. Many plans combine your hospital and medical coverage, and often prescription drug coverage, into a single plan — sometimes with added benefits.

Plan details, costs, and availability vary by carrier and location. Working with a licensed agent helps you compare what’s actually available where you live.

Also known as Part C

Medicare Advantage plans are offered by Medicare-approved private companies and must follow rules set by Medicare. They often include an annual maximum out-of-pocket limit — something Original Medicare does not include on its own.

It depends on the plan’s network. Many Medicare Advantage plans use HMO or PPO networks, so we’ll check whether your current doctors participate before you enroll.

Many Medicare Advantage plans include prescription drug coverage, but the specific drug list (formulary) varies by plan. We’ll compare your medications against available plans in your area.

Some Medicare Advantage plans include dental, vision, hearing, or fitness benefits. Availability depends on the carrier and plan, so we’ll show you what’s actually offered where you live.

You can typically enroll during your Initial Enrollment Period, the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct 15–Dec 7), the MA Open Enrollment Period (Jan 1–Mar 31), or a Special Enrollment Period if you qualify.
